It is always amazing to hear people tell their story about how they came to do what they do! At our annual WiDS Worldwide Perth 2025 event, we were fortunate enough to hear the inspiring journeys of four incredible Perth women. Thank you to Georgia Nester, Jia Min Ho, Maira Alvi and Rachel Cardell-Oliver for sharing your experiences and wisdom.
There were many gems shared with our captivated audience including “find the problem you want to solve and go for it” and “don’t be afraid to propose projects”. We heard real life scenarios that showed the value of multidisciplinaryteams and the importance of peopleskills. Reflective moments highlighted the challenge to not overcommit and the drive to make data useful.
With 140 registrations, this sold out annual event is run as a collaboration by the UWA Data Institute and UWA Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering. Thank you to our panellists, our attendees, to Louisa Leung for the ReSHEmé tailored career coaching prize, to UWA Oceans Institute and Women in High Performance Computing (WHPC+) Australasia for your support, and to our amazing team of volunteers who help us run events.
