Conference 2026

Event Wrap-Up & Photos

What a day! Our annual UWA Data Institute Conference last Friday welcomed a sold-out crowd to hear about transformative and inspiring research and innovation by leading industry and academic speakers.

Our theme this year was ‘Data Matters ~ The Virtuous and Vicious’, addressing the relative place of data in the present AI revolution. There is an explosion of data, and to enable high-quality decisions and defensible data products we need accuracy, consistency and completeness.

Sincere thanks to our guests and speakers Professor Anna Nowak, Hon Dr Parwinder Kaur MLC, Hon Minister Stephen Dawson MLC, Professor Eun-Jung Holden, Professor Toby Walsh FAA FTSE FRSN, Professor Fiona Wood, Professor Archa Fox, Dr Nikolay Shirokikh, Dr Jo Hawkins, PhD, Dr Michael Bertolacci, Martin Kirk, Dr Jake Kendrick, Pia Turcinov AM and Tamryn Barker.

Thank you to the UWA research students who once again made the Postgraduate Student Researcher Pitch session after lunch one of the highlights of the day.

Thank you to our Foundation and Conference Sponsors BCG X | IMDEX | Kinetic IT | Chevron | Infosys | CapabilityX and Community Partner Women in Technology WA Inc. (WiTWA), and UWA Office of Industry & Commercial Development for your support.

Thank you to our amazing MC Charlie Gunningham, Alton Walley who delivered the Welcome to Country, and to our team of volunteers, student clubs and helpers who made the day so great.
