“Doina Olaru is an academic at the UWA Business School and a member of the Centre for Business Data Analytics (CBDA), where her work focuses on harnessing big data to transform transport research and practice. With extensive experience in transport modelling, operations research, and statistical analysis, Doina’s research explores how large and complex datasets can inform strategic planning, optimise transport systems, and enhance travel behaviour understanding. Her projects span travel behaviour, impact of new vehicle technologies (including autonomous vehicles), land use-transport integration, freight logistics, with a strong emphasis on evidence-based decision-making. She has led and contributed to significant research initiatives that combine traditional transport modelling approaches with emerging data-driven methods, enabling more responsive and predictive solutions to complex mobility challenges. As part of CBDA, Doina collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to advance the use of big data in addressing real-world transport issues, bridging academic research with industry and government applications. Her work contributes to shaping the future of transport planning and policy, ensuring that data analytics plays a central role in building smarter, greener, more connected, and more resilient transport systems.”
