Research Project Objective

The objective of this project is to systematically prepare and standardize neuroimaging datasets to support reliable artificial intelligence–based analysis of Alzheimer’s disease. Structural MRI and PET data were curated and processed from raw clinical imaging files, addressing challenges such as inconsistent metadata, class imbalance, and modality specific preprocessing requirements.

Background

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder that leads to a decline in cognitive function and brain structure over time. It is associated with the accumulation of abnormal proteins such as amyloid-beta and tau, which disrupt neuronal communication and cause cell death (Jack, 2008). Clinically, this results in memory loss, impaired reasoning, language difficulties, and behavioural changes. As there is no definitive cure, early detection is critical for slowing disease progression and improving patient outcomes.
