“Associate Professor Pejman Rowshan Farzad is a medical physicist at The University of Western Australia, affiliated with the School of Physics, Mathematics & Computing and the UWA Defence & Security Institute.
After earning a Bachelor in Applied Physics, a Master in Medical Physics, and a PhD in Medical Physics, he spent eight years developing novel production techniques for medical radioisotopes in a cyclotron environment.
His PhD work on improving EPID-based dosimetry and evaluating linear accelerator mechanical performance has given rise to methods now deployed in clinical settings.
Since joining UWA in 2013, he has taught and supervised extensively in medical physics.
He has published over 140 peer-reviewed articles, maintaining collaborations with hospitals and research institutions domestically and internationally.
His research interests revolve around radiotherapy physics, especially quality assurance for advanced delivery techniques (IMRT/VMAT), internal dosimetry, real-time tumour tracking, stereotactic radiosurgery, and applications of machine learning in radiotherapy.
He leads and contributes to funded projects spanning tumour motion prediction, imaging modality conversion via AI, 3D printed dosimetry devices, and functional imaging for glioma characterisation.
His achievements include multiple UWA teaching and research awards as well as recognition as a 2024 State STEM Educator of the Year (tertiary finalist). ”
